    The preliminary data are presented on microstructures of the gabbric mylonites from the Hongliuhe (HLH)(红柳河) ophiolitic complex, in the border area between Xinjiang and Gansu, NW China. The HLH ophiolitic complex are remnants of the Silurian South Tianshan oceanic crust, while the Mid-Tianshan Terrane collided with the Tarim plate in the Upper Carboniferous. The accumulative gabbros from the HLH ophiolites preserve a fine example of mylonitic rocks. The ductile deformation of clinopyroxene and plagioclase in HLH area are different from those in granulite terrain of North China craton. Generation of these gabbric mylonites is interpreted instead as due to ductile shear at the lower oceanic crust near the spreading centre, soon after new oceanic crust was formed.

    A total of 42 aquatic particulate samples (suspended matter and < 63 μm surficial sediments) was collected from 11 large rivers in the eastern China. These rivers include, from north to south, the Amur, Nenjiang, Songhua, Ussuri,Tumen, Yalu, Liaohe, Luanhe, Yellow, Huaihe, Yangtze, Qiantang, Minjiang, and Pearl rivers. Contents of both major elements (Al, Si, Ca, Mg, K, Na, Ti, Fe, Mn) and trace elements (Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Cr, Co, Ni, V) in the particulate samples were analysed. Based on the data set, to which were added literature data for the Yellow,Yangtze and Pearl rivers,the geographicvariations of river particulate compositions in the eastern China were studied. The results showedthat the Yellow River particulates contained a notably high content of Ca and low content of Al. Except for the Yellow River, Al contents in particulates increased from the northern rivers to the southern rivers, while K and Na decreased. Trace elements were relatively enriched in the southern river particulates. The geographic variations were suggested to be related to the weathering types and geological background within the river basins. The average composition of river particulates in China was then estimated. Based on the Chinese river data from this paper, as well as on the literature data for other main world rivers, a new estimation of the global average particulate composition was reported. Since the earlier estimations on the literature were not concerned with or only concerned with few of the Chinese rivers which contribute a great proportion to the global load of river particulates, this new estimation may be more reasonable.

    Based on the filed investigation and data analysis of the tectonics、sediments and landform, the authors has studied a special active tectonic unit developed in the compressional mountain fringe of the Hexi corridor—trumpet asymmetric graben. It looks like a flaring river mouth in plane developed at arcuate mountain fringe in shape, but a asymmetric graben confined by active fractures and developed in the specified tectonic position in fact. This is a representative form of tectonics in the compressional active fractures zone, the Gulang asymmetric graben is one of the them. The paper has approached its developed model.

    The interficial behavior between aluminum and Sn and its alloys during soldering has been studied by metallograph, SEM and microprobe methods. The results indicated that some needle-like crystals of Al-Sn-Zn solid solution at some points on aluminum were produced and pricked into alloy after intereaction between Al and Sn-Zn or Pb-Sn-Zn. Some alloys moistened on the surface of Al well and reacted with Al efficiently during soldering.

    The development of density functional theory and its applications made it necessary to improve the relevant calculation accuracy. Based on analysis of the factors influencing the calculation errors and adopting suitable techniques to treat them, a scheme and the correspondent program for solving Kohn-Sham equation have been presented. With this program, the accuracy of the calculated total energy can posses 8 digitals with reasonable computation efforts. This accuracy is higher than that of the usual DVM results for 2 to 3 level, and can satisfy the requirement of up to date general quantum chemistry researches. In this paper, the scheme and program will be described in some detail.
    Establishment and Characterization of Six ES Cell Lines from Mouse 129/ter Strain

    Six mouse Smbryonic stem cell lines were established from strain 129/ter.Their karyotypes as well as their differentiation ability in vivo and in vitro had been tested. Two of the six cell lines had normal diploid karyotypes, and MESPU 13 was a XY ES cell line. MESPU 13 could keep its normal karyotype and undifferentiated state over long period of culture, and it was highly efficient in forming chimeras. The cell skeleton protein content of MESPU 13 was the same as that of the 3--4 days old murin embryonic cells. The teratomas of the karyotypically abnormal ES cell lines grew faster,but their differentiation extent was slightly different from those of the normal ones. The factors which might affect the establishment of ES cell lines had also been discussed.

    A series biodegradable segmented polyester urethane (SPESU) were synthesized. The soft segment was poly (glycolide-co-caprolactone) prepared by ring openingcopolymerization of glycolide and ε-caprolacton initiated by 1, 4-butanediol(BD) using stannous octoate as catalyst. The physical and structural characterizations were performed using FTIR, NMR, DSC, dynamic viscoelastic and stressstrain test. Prepared SPESU films were subjected to degradation at 37℃ in phosphate buffer solution of pH 7.2 in vitro. Experimental results showed that the effect of GA content in poly (GA-co-CL) and soft segment molecular weight on the physical properties and degradation rates of SPESU was obvious.

    In 0.1 mol/L ClCH2COOH-ClCH2COONa buffer solution, at pH3.2, a sensitive catalytic wave of Ti(Ⅳ)-quercetin-NaClO3 is obtained by using singlesweep polarography. The detection limit of titanium is 7.0×10-9mol/L. It was used to determine trace titanium in pure metallic magnesium. The composition of complex has been detected as Ti(Ⅳ)∶Qu=1∶1, and the rate constant of catalytic reaction k=4.8×105(mol/L)-1·s-1 has been determined.
    The Patterns of Lactate Dehydrogenase Release of Isolated Mouse Heart in the Early Ischemia Reperfusion Period

    By means of Langendorff method, isolated mouse heart was perfused with Krebs-Hensleit (K-H) buffer solution. After 10 min equilibrium, the heart underwent global ischemia of three different duration followed by 10 min reperfusion. During the first 5 min of reperfusion, coronary effluents were collected in accordance with given sequence, in order to analyze Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) activity U/L as an index of cellular damage induced by ischemicreperfusion. Ischemia, classified into threegroups (5 min, 10 min, and 15 min), caused a biphasic LDH release. The first one, which represented mainly ischemic injury, appeared in the first 15 s of reperfusion, and had higher value than that of control. The activities of LDH release were (55.4±3.8), (86.8±5.4), and (96.2±6.8)U/L, for the above 3 groups, respectively. The second peak appeared in 180 to 240 s of reperfusion represented mainly reperfusion injury, and was lower than that of the first peak, but higher than controlvalue. Arrhythmias, e.g., premature ventricular contraction (PVC) and ventricular tachycardia (VT) were observed during 5 min reperfusion period. The numbers of PVC were 187±17, 217±10, and 244±14, whereas the duration of VT was (10±2) s, (22±3) s, and (24±2) s, for above 3 groups, respectively. Normal sinus rhythm time (NSRT) during early reperfusion period of the above 3 groups were measured to (214±SD29), (196±SD31) and (183±SD24) s, respectively. In this study and experimental ischemiareperfusion model indicated by LDH release has been the first established mouse heart at our laboratory. This model had provided convenient approach and new possibilities for further investigation and protection of cardiac ischemia-reperfusion injury.

    Paleoclimate and paleoenvironment are discussed on the basis of faunas and14C dating,δ18O values, etc. of Mid Holocene beachrocks in Zhejiang province in the paper. Results of the study indicate that Zhejiang province belonged to the tropical zone in Mid-Holocene. This period can be divided into three epochs: (1) before 6040 aBP, (2) 5860-3210 aBP, (3) 2875-2770 aBP. In the second epoch, it was warmmer, especially the period of 5490-4110 aBP with megathermal maximum, the paleotemperature calculated by δ18O was 5-6℃ higher than that of the present.

    5 hemicyanines with the compositions of Me2NC64CH=CHC54NCnH2n+1Br (n=16, 12, 4, 2 and 1) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, thermalgravimetric, differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), differential scan calorimetry (DSC), ultraviolet and infrared spectroscopy. For the first time, a hemicyanine Me2NC64CH=CHC54NC1633Br has been characterized to be of a mesogenic behavior with typical focal conical texture. The structure of Me2NC64CH=CHC54NC25Br.nH2O has been determined by singal crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal belong to monoclinic, P21/C space group. The crystal parameters are as follows: a=1.6125(8), b=1.7391(12), c=1.8784(8) nm, β=99.794(8)°, V=5.220(5) nm, Z=12.

    The title complex was prepared through the reaction of (Ph3P)2Ag(S2CSR) (R=C6H5 or C6H2Pri3-2,4,6) formed by inserting of CS2 into Ag-S bond of AgSR in the presence of Ph3P with BrCH2CH2Br—P under mild conditions. The colorless block crystal belongs to rhombohedral system with the space group R3c, α=1.6421(2) nm, c=4.4075(9) nm, V=10.297(3) nm3, Dc=1.746 g·cm-3, Z=6. The final R is 0.033 for 2244 independent reflections. The four silver atoms and four bromine atoms form a distorted cube, and each silver atom is tetrahedral coordinated by one P and three Br atoms.

    In the buffer solution of acetate, at pH5.2, a sensitive adsorptive complex wave of vanadium(Ⅳ)-quercetin(Qu) can be obtained by single-sweep polarography. The detection limit was down to 7.0×10-8 mol/L. The composition of complex was detected as V(Ⅳ)∶Qu=1∶1. The rate constant of the surface electrochemical reaction was determined as ks=3.9 s-1.

    The extracted DIMBOA was used to determine its biological activities on the Asian corn borer (ACB), Ostrinia furnscalis (Guenée). The antifeedant property of DIMBOA on ACB was confirmed by the methods of leaf disc (selected and unselected) and feeding-weighing. Antifeeding ratio in unselected experiment was lower than that in selected one. Our results showed that DIMBOA had some effect on embryonic development of ACB and significantly affected the growth and development of ACB's larvae. The larvae's growth and development were delayed, mortality increased, weight of both the larvae and the pupae decreased, sex ratio(f/m) decreased, and deformed pupae appeared after the treatment with DIMBOA. Most ACB holes in plants are at the lower parts of internodes, where DIMBOA concentrations are higher. Further researches on this phenomenum are needed.

    This article summarized the brief history, current status and major developing trends of plant biotechnology since 1980. It is concerntrated on the aspects of using transgenic plants as well as engineered virus as a vector to produce medicinal polypeptides, using transgenic plants as a tool to improve crop production、quality and resistance to unfavorable environmental conditions including weed killer, to increase the rate of photosynthesis and nitrogen fixation. The possibility of biomedical use of engineered microbe and its future was also discussed.

    La(Ⅲ)-chlorophyll-a was synthesized in mixed solution of methanol and acetic acid. The room temperature UV-Vis and variable temperature MCD spectra of La(Ⅲ)-chlorophyll-a, chlorophyll-a and pheophytin-a were studied in tetrahydro-2-methylfuran solvent. The UV-Vis and MCD spectra of La(Ⅲ)-chlorophy-a are very similar to those of chlorophyll-a, but different from those of pheophytin-a. This shows that porphyrin ring of pheophytin-a is coordinated to La(Ⅲ) ion, and gives new complex. All variable temperature MCD spectra show the present of Faraday C term, which may be contributed by the cation radicals. This need to be further verified by EPR spectra. In addition, La(Ⅲ)-chlorophyll-a may have similar monoporphyrin structure with chlorophyll-a from their similar MCD spectra.
    A Quantitative Discussion to the Relationship between Thrusting of Orogenic Belt and Subsidence and Sedimentation of Foreland Basin ——Kuche Intracontinental Foreland Basin as an Example

    The basin between orogenic belt and craton is called foreland basin. However, in a sense it has been expanded in the last few years because of development of the intracontinental orogenic theory. The authors suggest that the basin which is located at the front of the intracontinental orogenic belt may also be called foreland basin or intracontinental foreland basin because it can be analogic with the typical foreland basin. The thrusting of the orogenic belt onto the foreland area is an indicator of the tectonic response to lithosphere in foothill, and therefore, the subsidence(foreland basin) and the nearby uplift(Mountain) are formed. Besides common features, each foreland basin has some local features differing from the influence of the basement character, tectonic setting, thrusting of orogenic belt, growing rate of denudation and sedimentation, and open extent of the basin. The newestapproach of the study is the balanced relationship in foreland basin reflectedby the tectonic regime and sedimentation between thrusting of the orogenic belt and the foreland basin, shown by the curve of the corrected tectonic stripping, time step and rate of sedimentation. The Kuche intracontinental foreland basin, located at southern foothill of south Tianshan is a typical closed system for this type of tectonsedimentary tary processes The studyno the Kuche intracontinental foreland basin using the methods mentioned above shows that corrected curves of the tectonic stripping can describe the thrusting and subsidence accurately. Those results of the study could be valuable for evaluation of the oilbearing reservoir and structural trap based on the regional geological evidences in the Kuche intracontinental foreland basin.
    Changes of Polysaccharide Storage and Amylase Isozyme Activity in Relation to the Annual Cycle of Cambium Activity in Eucommia ulmoides Shoots

    The polysaccharide granules in tissues of Eucommia ulmoides stained noblue-black with I-KI solution and showed no anisotropy under polarized microscope. The seasonal changes of polysaccharide granules in the pith, xylem and cortex parenchyma of the shoots were mere related to the annual cycle of cambial activity. Polysaccharide granules accumulated from the end of May to mid-December, and degraded gradually until mid-April of thefollowing year. A few polysaccharide granules existed in the phloem parenchymaand their variation was less obvious than that in xylem and cortex. Zymogramphy of amylase isozymes was different among tissues. Albeit the enzyme activities changed during the annual cycle of cambial activity, but showed no interrelation with the accumulation and degradation of polysaccharide granules.
