Abstract: A simple method of determining hydroxyl radical scavenging effects of metallothionein (MT) was developed. The hydroxyl radical scavenging effects of various oxidative degrees MT and isoforms were investigated. The results indicate that the hydroxyl radical scavenging effects of variously oxidative MT positively correlate with their sulfhydryl group content; with the same sulfhydryl group content, the hydroxyl radical scavenging effects of ZnMT-1 is stronger than that of ZnMT-2; and the capacity of ZnMTs is far stronger than that of GSH and Cystein.
